"But I’d like a game to be 60% group content and 40% solo."

Just wanted to comment on that. I would much rather prefer 50/50. The major problems with forcing people to group in MMOs currently is they don't give any incentive for doing so. The only thing you gain from grouping is *possibly* getting those quests don't a tad bit quicker. MMOs should encourage grouping instead of discouraging it. Keep the XP rate the same or something.

In LOTRO where I'd say the content "60% group, 40% solo", it's very hard to find groups for the group material. People just don't group to level in the game anymore, I have to get help from a 50 in my guild to complete that stuff. So when you can't complete the group stuff, it forces you to grind. This is a big mistake.

TLDR: It should be 50/50, both styles should be capable of leveling at a reasonable pace. Grouping in modern MMO's needs to be looked at for leveling, it should not penalize the group members where they lose most of the XP from a mob due to grouping. Encourage grouping, don't discourage it. At the same time, don't totally kill the solo portion either, make that completely viable!

@Openedge1.
I've been following Aion closely myself and it's a game I'm interested in. It was due for a '08 release but it's been pushed back to '09. Currently it's in CBT3. It's a game I have some hopes in but, again, we'll have to wait and see.
I have posted a topic about it once. As the game gets closer to release I'll talk more about it. Thanks for the blog link, I'll check it out.

To be fair, I've not fallen by the wayside. I just split time between 2 games now that my friend moved to SC and his PC is gimped by AoC. :)

I'm still enjoying it, but I whole-heartedly echo the sentiments that there's just a ton missing from the game at the moment. Crafting's being worked on, PvP system is coming in the next few weeks, and from there more and more PvE content is supposed to be added... but shouldn't the publisher (Eidos) given them time to finish the game instead?

I totally understand the need to beat WAR and Lich King to the market. As someone who has played WAR and someone who plays WoW still... they REALLY, REALLY needed to beat them to the market. But I was hoping they'd do so with a game that had all pieces of its core in place.

It's a shame, but if they don't clean up some of the mess before September-October and WAR... they're going to become nothing more than a niche game with only the die-hard fans remaining.

I have been outspoken about WAR, yet, I have seen new video and screenshots which seems to eliminate some feelings of "WoW Deja Vu". Now, other features are starting to show up that look good. But, i just do not know if I can go back to "slow mo" combat MMO's.
I logged into Vanguard this morning for example, but it took me almost 2 minutes to defeat a mob MY level. 1 Mob. That just is insane.
In EQ2 I have not even entered combat for ages. And to top it off my 2 characters (Paladin and Warden) needless to say are some of the slowest combat classes ever.
GW has been awesome for me. I get in for an hour. I am leveling my new Heroes I got from Nightfall and brought back to Prophecies with my level 20 monk. Good fun stuff.
But, I miss MMO stuff. and hope one of these games that is coming will be fun.
(PS: For example, check out my friends blog on Aion. If you like Anime based characters that is. Think Final Fantasy XI, but...looks better and looks to be more fun)

Thanks for the grats. Sadly the game just lacks the body that makes up a true MMO. Lame crafting, zero trade going on amongst players, no faction rewards; hell, no faction period. My sister has just hit level 40, bought a horse, and is having a ball, much like I was. But already she's complained about no player housing amongst other things.

After a string of disappointments; Tabula Rasa, Pirates of the Burning Sea, I hoped, nay, thought that Age of Conan would be the defining MMO of the year, but it's just a shell of an MMO. Let's see what the future has to offer.

Other MMO's
Collections, Easy Crafting, Good Auction House systems, Group Dungeons all over the place, Itemization (gotta find that next piece of armor or cool weapon), Upgrade weapons or armor, Guilds that reward factions or teamwork, PvP mini games
The list goes on. All MISSING from AoC.
No carrot on the stick gameplay that makes an MMO.
But, AoC has killer combat and a good quest system that is great for

Single player games

Sorry to hear this. I also still believe the comedy of errors on the part of Funcom to fix their game, and only making it worse is just a sad indication of where this title is headed.
You deserve grats on how long you held out. Rog at NecroRog and Bildo also did this, but have finally also fell to the wayside.

Here is hoping Funcom can figure out what they need to succeed.

@Caliga
Guess thats why I continue to enjoy Guild Wars. For such a simple game, it really has more to offer than most MMO's
As of last night we had been sent on a mission to convince someone to join a group of warriors called Sunspears. Along the way we find a gentleman asking us to help him clear his garden of Flamingos...yea...Flamingos. Seems so many of them were nipping at him as he tried to run them off, we were there at the right time.
How did we have to do this?
We had to maneuver them (thanks to collision detection like AoC) and move them toward a patch that leads away from the garden.
Should have seen how silly my wife and myself looked chasing Flamingos, yet laughing at the same time.
And convincing that guy consisted of killing, yet while we were killing this particular mob, we also had received a bounty for the heads of said creatures, and got two birds, one stone.
Yup...good questing fun.

I just don't like the way quests are handed out. I'd rather see one quest giver, he gives you one quest, and then off you go. Along the way you may come across the odd NPC that may give you a side quest, but turning up to a quest hub and loading up on all the quests just doesn't inspire and certainly doesn't immerse me.
