I’ve been a staunch supporter of Aion’s crafting, amidst a wave of discontent. I enjoy Aion’s crafting and its complexities. For instance, to make a Koa Staff I have to harvest koa logs, which I then turn into koa wood, which in turn gets turned into koa boards and koa rods, which I can use with weapon flux and aether crystal to make the staff. Unfortunately the basic Koa Staff doesn’t sell for much and there are unavoidable costs involved, even if you harvest all your own mats. I need to buy sandpaper from the Merchant to make the koa boards and rods, and that can get costly. I also have a chance of getting a proc, which means I’ll produce a “green” staff, which has better stats and is worth considerably more to sell, depending on the market. Or I can take the green staff and use it to make a Worthy Koa Staff, utilizing a whole different lot of resources.

So as I said, I’ve been a supporter of the crafting. But lately I’m feeling less and less supportive. See, if you don’t get an item to proc, then you’ve mostly got worthless stuff which if you’re very lucky you can sell on the broker for a small markup, but most often you sell it to the Merchant and try to recoup some of your money. And leveling up your crafting is expensive as well. It’ll cost me 100,000’s of kinah to level up my crafting from 200-299, as well as being stung with an almost 500,000 fee to go up to the next tier. And if you’re not making greens or, if you’re really lucky, blues, then the whole process is a huge money sink. As enjoyable as the crafting is, half the fun is in making money. Lately I’m not even breaking even, so much so that I can’t afford to level up my crafting at the moment, nor can I even afford my next level of new spells, which is almost 240,000.

So, I have been a supporter in the past but my passion for crafting is wavering. It’s far too resource hungry and costs way too much in unavoidable merchant materials. Something needs to be tweaked.
