The Cradle of Decay
Having farmed Sanctum of the Burning Souls to death it was time to move on. Cradle of Decay is one of the new dungeons in Age of Conan that were part of the recent game update and is located in the Fields of the Dead in Cimmeria. It’s a six-man instanced zone with Epic mobs ranging from level 43-44.
Our group consisted of the usual four, Keiry the Conqueror and our main tank, Daccus the Barbarian on DPS, Delphiae, a Tempest of Set with heals and DPS and myself on the Priest of Mitra filling the main healer role. We filled out the group with another Barbarian, Alamort, with whom we’ve grouped before. Our last spot we filled with a fellow guild member on their Bear Shaman. Once again, all three of AoC’s healers were represented in our group.
The first part of this dungeon is quite busy with wandering mobs, so pulling is fraught with danger. In fact, we wiped here on our second pull and wiped a couple of more times before we managed to get clear of the front and started working our way deeper. Once you do get past this difficult beginning it gets much easier, with most mobs coming in pairs and adds easier to avoid, though they still can cause problems.
We managed to finish all the quests we had and killed a number of Bosses. They were for the most part tank-n-spank, though one of them had a lot of minions with him and seemed to be getting healed, similar in a way to Fenyang in Black Castle. We killed all his minions and he seemed to take damage after that. Another Boss we faced, Grogg (or something) was a bit confusing. He sent some mobs after us and yet we couldn’t target him. We eventually destroyed two hearts that were at the edge of the pool he was standing in and appeared to be his blood supply. It was all a little confusing at the time but in the end he was another tank-n-spank. We didn’t quite clear the entire zone because we wiped again, but since we’d finished our quests and seemed to have killed all the Bosses we decided to call it a day.
Cradle of Decay is a fun zone and has some challenges. It definitely requires a full group of appropriate level range and I’ll definitely do it a few more times in the hope of farming some loot. I don’t think I found it quite as entertaining as Black Castle but it’s still a good zone and fills a gap in the levelling curve.
