Black Castle
Today I headed into Black Castle (BC), a dungeon in Khopshef Province with a NPC level range of 31-33 Epics. I never did BC on my Tempest the first time I played Age of Conan, I actually leveled right past it before I even realized it existed. So this time around I was determined to check it out. I’ve been missing a good dungeon crawl so I was very eager to hit it.
Our group comprised a Conqueror as our tank, a Barbarian on DPS, a Dark Templar, myself as the main healer on my Priest, and a Tempest and a Bear Shaman to round it out. In our 6 man we had all of the healers in AoC represented. We hit the Basement first where we found a couple of Bosses once we cut through all the crap and our Conqueror was fortunate to get some ub3r ph4t l3wtz out of the encounters. We moved upstairs to the higher level epics, the 33’s, but we found the going tough and after another group wipe a couple of the party decided to call it a night.
We didn’t complete any of the quests we had but that didn’t matter because it was a lot of fun. Black Castle is a nice dungeon and one of the first you’ll come across once you’re off the island. Interstingly, five out of the six in the group were all returning players. We’ve planned on hitting Black Castle again. Should be fun.

I loved going to the Black Castle! Even though it was my first time healing a group in AoC, and I had a hard time keeping folks alive in boss fights with my Bear Shaman. It really makes me want to check out the new dungeons in patch 1.4.

Black Castle and Sanctum are way fun. The quests are hard in both as well…but possible. I love the whole put a body together quest in BC…talk about wild.
Did you guys figure out the room with Snakes bit? That threw me for a loop…snakes would not DIE!!! (unless you knew the trick…hehe)…
That is what I am talking about when I say quests and dungeon runs can be more than kill 10 x.

Likewise Yasmina. I’m looking forward to checking out Cradle of Decay, it fills a much needed level range. I could imagine if you’re the only healer in Black Castle it would be really tough to keep you group alive.

I’ve missed a good dungeon crawl–a true, instanced 6 man experience in a place where you have to watch your pulls, play your class smart and suss out some problems. I very much enjoyed the Black Castle last night (the ub3r ph4t l3wtz was a bonus), and I am eager to go back. I left with the taste of wanting “more,” which is very refreshing. I now have the goal of clearing that zone.
BTW, my group was very considerate, putting up with my rusty tanking skills.
