A bit of this and that
I finally hit 28 on my Disciple. I’ve been stuck on 27 for days now, and it’s not so much from a lack of game time. I just haven’t been killing much of anything. I played for four hours the other night and didn’t kill one single thing the entire time. No mobs, no players. Our guild is a heavy roleplay guild and we currently have over 100 members if you include alts. And being heavy roleplayers there are a lot of stories going on in game, some interwoven with others, some running a course on their own. With 50 or 60 active members that’s a lot of stories. And I’ve been fortunate enough to be pulled into a number of them.
The upside is that I get to interact with a lot of players face to face (well, avatar to avatar) and play a part in their stories. The downside is that I don’t get any levels. I can spend four hours just moving from player to player, story to story. Add to that the duties of running a guild and I find that the actual playing part of the game is secondary. Not that I mind, really I don’t, but I do miss the DING!
We picked up three new members from another guild yesterday. They all cited their reason for leaving the guild was a decline in numbers due to a large number of their guild having gone back to World of Warcraft. I think Warhammer has stopped bleeding players to WoW and our server, Phoenix Throne, is seeing an influx of new players. Whether they are server transfers or whether the release of the Blackguard and Knight of the Blazing Sun has attracted new or returning players is anyone’s guess.
Speaking of Wow, my work mate just returned from some time off, which incidently coincided with the release of WoW. I asked him if he’d hit level 80 yet (he had a 70 Orc Warrior) and he laughed and told me he’d reached 80 in five days. Oh well, in two years time he’ll be able to get his 80 Warrior to 90, when the next expansion comes out.

Aye. its unlikely that Mythic will raise the level cap. The renown cap – that would work. just bring out another 20 renown ranks when lots of people start hitting somewhere near 80.
As for wow well.. think of all the wasted content now. Outland.. who the hell is gonna go there anymore? WoW was brilliant when Outland came out for people like me who had only been 60 a short time and had like.. MC stuff that wasnt even very good (i was a prot pally) and went straight up the ranks as a tankadin with outland gear. no1 is gonna want to start a new character because they wont wanna get groups.. they wont get immersed with the story because all they will wanna do is get to 68 ASAP

He’ll also be able to count all the work he does gathering gear for the next two years as completely useless when level 81 greens outdo his current stuff. WoW’s manner of expansions is so freaking weird. FFXI has managed to be a heavy, heavy end game focused game for five years with more expansions than WoW and never raised the level cap. Stuff I got for my 75 Paladin that took weeks or months to obtain two years ago are still going to be awesome if I go back next year. The same is not true of WoW, and though I’ve no interest in playing it again anyway, that fact is a huge part of not wanting to go back.
I think at this point anyone who was going to leave for WoW would have done so already. What we’ll see now is the slow trickle of those who got 80, got bored and came back. Coupled with all the changes that Mythic is pumping out rapid fire I think people will return to atleast try.
Isn’t it funny that in two months Mythic has pumped out more content and fixes than Destination Games did for more than a freaking year?
