Telon revisited
Telon? Who’s that, you ask, or what? Telon, for those that remember, is the world of Vanguard. A few days ago I reactivated my VG subscription. I’ve been missing the PvE, the grouping, the class balancing and interdependency, that is Vanguard. Warhammer is a hoot for RvR, but it’s just not satisfying my PvE needs. I find the PvE side of WAR tremendously boring, and I can’t even tell you why. So, in a moment of weakness, I resubscribed to VG and logged in.
And played my 43 Cleric. It took me a little while of soloing and killing undead wolves to remember my spells and the UI and then I flagged myself LFG. It was only five minutes later that I found myself in a group and heading to Graystone, a level 40 + dungeon brimming with Undead. The group was missing a tank unfortunately (and as usual) so we had a monk doing the tanking. The Monk in VG is medium armour wearing DPS class. It worked fine for a while and I was getting some nice XP and level 44 didn’t look too far away, but as we got deeper things started to get ugly and three group wipes later we were back to the start XP wise and the group called it a day.
Still, it was a nice change from RvR and the world of Telon still looks amazing, and the dungeons are huge, detailed, and well laid out. I’ve liked Vanguard since I first tried it at the start of the year, and I still like it. I think VG might be my alt-game when I’m not playing WAR. I’ll see how I feel after the month’s sub ends.

Well, while I can’t say that I’m happy about seeing you around even less than I already do in WAR, at least it’s for a good game.
I think my main problem with PvE in WAR, at least the dungeons, is that everyone wants to do them in a big zerg fest full warband which takes all the challenge and fun out of for me. Our alliance tends toward that, but I’ve always always wanted to run the dungeons with a smaller RP focused group. The end boss fights in each wing are always limited to six people, which makes me feel like the dungeons were intended for six mans. It’s so much more fun that way! Varian and I just spent about an hour and a half with a group of six trying to take down one boss. We attempted six or seven times and never managed to find the right tactic to manage it. So there are fun fights, difficult dungeons and bosses to be had. We just like to throw full WB at them for easy mode. I plan whenever we have a fuller t4 presence (and some tanks…) to run guild only dungeons with the intention of challenging ourselves with smaller groups and plenty of time to RP along the way. It might not be as easy as the alliance WB, or as productive in the way of getting lots of loot but it’ll be better xp for those still leveling (worlds better honestly.) and a whole lot more fun. That is, if I can find anyone interested in trying it with us.

I’m looking forward to hitting T4 and trying out the T4 dungeons. I’ll still intend playing WAR quite a lot, just with VG as another gaming outlet.
I agree with you about 6 mans. I would prefer to have the challenge and intimicy (if that’s the appropriate word) of a 6 man over a zerg. And having to put some thought into the attack rather than just zerging it.

I, too, am hopeful that T4 will re-invigorate me as far as the dungeons, pve, and improved RvR. I got a little frustrated last night with our warband because the people in it wanted to use Order tactics and flee to undefended keeps the minute somebody showed up to fight us. I thought the point of RvR was to fight with other players? Maybe I’m missing something. Or maybe we just had the misfortune of being grouped with people who only want easy renown. *shrugs*

I couldn’t believe my ears when they suggested abandoning the keep assault in favour of an undefended keep. I’m confused. Didn’t they want to actually fight people in RvR?

I am trying it out again as well, with a new sorc on the isle. I’ll be posting my observations in my blog, but I expect that many others will also be re-trying the game.
