The Warhammer wait

29 September, 2008 (02:32) | All, Warhammer

Ah yes, good old queue times.  I previously posted that the queue times had been improved somewhat with Mythic’s strategy of creating cloned servers, an exact duplicate of the existing server including all characters and levels etc.  Well this alleviation to the problem of queueing to get in the game seems to have been short lived.

Today I had to wait almost 30 minutes in a queue to get onto the Phoenix Throne server, while others complained of 1 hour long waits.  Admittedly, this is the weekend and the busiest time, but still an unacceptable wait.  At least new players won’t join the server if they are about to create their first character and find out they must wait an hour to play it.

I do wonder why the queue times have increased.  Perhaps players from the cloned servers are returning to the more popular and populated server, rather than the lonelier clones.  The worst part is if you experience a crash or get dumped from the game, only to find you have to wait another hour to get in.  It was actually raised by a guild member whether we should move to the cloned server.  While I am reluctant to do it for a few reasons, in particular the fact that servers were cloned 10 of so days ago and my character on there is only level 7.  We also have a guild bank full of gold and items, which weren’t there at the time of cloning.  And it’s not just me, we have 40 guild members now who’s characters are higher than they were then.  But the thought of moving to White Tower, the clone, is well and truly embedded in my head.

Hmm, what to do, what to do?

Like we discussed last night, you’re going to wait on either one. It’s just a matter of where you do the waiting. On Phoenix Throne, you wait to log into the server to play. On White Tower, you log in quickly, but then wait to do scenarios, RvR, PQ’s, etc. Either way, I don’t think there will be instant gratification. Personally, I’d rather wait up front than to stand around in game doing solo quests and killing time because there aren’t enough people on to get the RvR aspects going. :)
