37 days until WAR
At least I think it’s 37 days, I could be wrong. Or is it 38 days for my US readers and 37 for me, or 36 for me and 37 in the US. I don’t know, it’s all a little confusing. But to answer the question that’s popped into your head; yes, I’m from the future. So about 37 days. Either way, it’s not that long to wait, though some might disagree, and it is closer than first anticipated. And I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do.
I haven’t pre-ordered any Collector’s or Standard Editions, and I don’t think I will. I might just wait until it hits the shelves and then grab myself a copy. I’ve had a look at the bonus items the CE contains, and while a couple of those things sound good, I don’t know that I really need to pay the extra cash for them. If I was Warhammer crazy then for sure, I’d want it all. But since I’m only MMOG crazy and RvR excited, there’s nothing there that I couldn’t live without.
I’d pre-ordered Age of Conan and that came with some bonuses. I got a cloak that would give me free amberwine in any tavern. I assume that was for the “drunken brawling” PvP mini-game that never eventuated, so I have a useless cloak sitting in my bank vault. I also got a ring that gave 2% bonus XP. I used that up until about level 31 so I got some use out of it. I got a unique mount, the battle rhino, which I rode for one level before buying a horse which is much faster. The rhino looks cool, and perhaps there’s a use for it in sieges or for melee classes, but for me it’s just big and slow. Thanks to collision detection, it seems to also have a terrible fear of chickens, going from a run to a complete stop the instant one of these terrifying birds of prey step in its path.
I did get a nice art book which discussed aspects of the development and I did read that and enjoy the pictures, and the soundtrack CD is actually really good. But still, nothing in there that I couldn’t live without or that would gimp my character.
So I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I’m not even sure if I’ll play it at release. It would be the fourth game in a row that I’ve played from release and I’m not sure I want to go through the bugs, patches, nerfs and fanbois spamming “Dude, go back to WoW” again. The gamer in me says I must play it, and there’s a part of me that feels obliged to play and discuss it on this blog, because clearly there aren’t enough people blogging about WAR.
And that’s my dilemma. I have 37 days.

Price of the CE is $50 AUD more than the standard edition. Ouch.
