MMO Gamers

I was testing out my new graphics card with the same graphical setup that I mentioned in my previous post.  Firstly I was running around Hyboria to see how my frame rates were.  For the most part I was getting FPS of 70+ in the open areas.  I then went into the cannibal caves and got hit with 20 FPS.  Not good.  So I’ll have to turn down my graphics settings for Age of Conan if only for the inside areas.

I then jumped into Vanguard and ran around Thestra, experiencing a FPS of the high 40’s and 50’s.  I zoned into Qalia, the other continent, and was getting 70+ FPS in the open areas.  Qalia is a desert region and much easier on the PC, seeing as how there’s no need to render lots of trees or grass.  Everything was looking awesome and going well.  I figured I better try getting a group and seeing how bad a hit my FPS would take in that situation.  So I’m running around going “Ooh” and “ahh” at how awesome everything looks when there’s a “POP” and a “FIZZLE” and then nothing.  Black screen.  My power supply decided to pack it in.  My oohs and ahhs quickly turned into more graphical descriptions.

This happened at night so I couldn’t go and replace it then and there because the stores were closed.  So I ended up drowning my sorrows with a bottle of red and a DVD.  This morning I headed to my trusty PC store and bought not one, but two power supplies.  The second one is a Thermaltake Power Express 650 which doesn’t run by itself but has to connect to an existing power supply.  It takes some of the power load as well as being my dedicated graphic card power supply unit.  And it’s all ready for SLI if I should stumble across a briefcase containing large sums of money and can afford a second card.

 Now, back to Hyboria and Telon.
