Servers down in Hyboria
Well anyone trying to log into Age of Conan will find that the servers are still down, or rather went back down due to server instability, i.e. crashes, after the first patch. They’re scheduled to come back up at midnight GMT which is a total of 13 hrs of downtime. Bad Funcom, very bad.
Of course, they apologies for the inconvenience, and for me it is a huge inconvenience, because I was hoping to get a couple of hours of playtime in before real life took over and I had to go out. I also have family visiting this weekend and an otherwise jam packed weekend so I doubt that I’ll be able to play again until probably the middle of next week.
And I’m pretty sure the rest of Conan’s subscribers are not happy either, because when I went to the forums I found this:
vBulletin Message
The forums are currently down for maintenance
Please check back soon
At least I didn’t see another Tempest of Set nerf in the patch notes.
EDIT: At 2240 hours GMT I was able to connect to the server and commence patching. The community forums went back up also.

Very sorry to hear it
I think for many people they would’ve already renewed their subs so they have them for another month.
I managed to get an hour and a half playtime in, and I enjoyed it. I like the people in my guild and the game itself. I don’t care much for the instances though /shrug.
Certainly bad for Funcom but I doubt it’ll have any major ramifications. Those that weren’t sure about the game anyway are probably the ones that leave. For the ones like me, who are enjoying it, it was merely frustrating.
Funcom have done well with this game, the timing was perfect. The only thing that’s going to hurt AoC is Warhammer. Every other MMO out there is getting stale.

The sentiment of stale MMO’s is heartfelt.
I am trying to play EQ2, yet, here I am writing in comments on your blog.
I also got the free time in Vanguard (how interesting that happened yesterday), yet this game proves hardcore death penalties are not for the Casual Adult 35+ with a life and a family.
Someone said in chat after I asked why I was sent to an altar 30 minutes away from my character after I died “Because it is like Real Life”.
Wait…I already have one of those. (lol)
Large non-instanced worlds are also not the best thing ever…lol
But, I am willing to watch Funcom and make a decision on if I should come back based on further patches. They need some strong QA and the nerf bat needs to stop. My class was not even the one affected yesterday, but the fact that it is being done instead of overall reaching changes, makes me concerned.
I will continue to see how you and several others also react over the next month…so please keep blogging about your adventures. I hope all goes well.
Cheers

I actually had more fun last night with my ToS than I had in the past week.
But that’s mostly because I’m a.) still filled with quests and b.) still exploring Field of the Dead.
I dread the leveling wall… that will be the true test on if I keep playing for real, or if my playing becomes “work” for TTH and I sub to another game for real fun.
It’s a great game underneath it all… but so was Auto Assault. :p

This is the kind of stuff you’re going to get with Funcom. They ran out of funding for the game to begin with, the graphics suck, the game play sucks, and if it wasn’t for people wanting a change from warcraft the game would fail faster.

What? Graphics and gameplay suck? You really haven’t done your homework, eh?
Graphics, maybe a matter of taste, but from a sheer visual standpoint they’re lightyears ahead of any MMOG on the market. And the gameplay, namely the combat, is the same. Again maybe it’s just a matter of opinion, but I really don’t expect someone whose site is dedicated to WoW Macros to be very objective in his commentary.

I agree Bildo. This guy is on something for sure.
I think AoC is on of the most gorgeous MMO’s out right now, and is hella fun. My only issue is the company.
But, Warcraft Macros is on drugs to say the game sucks. It does not at all, and it has some major potential. Way more than Vanguard, LOTRO or even EQ2 (which has not even peaked after 3 years).
Once I see Funcom get on the ball, release our Buddy Keys, then I will be back, and bringing friends in tow!

Well, I took matters in my own hands, and canceled before my scrip was to go in today.
This was the worst possible move on Funcoms part, allowing a patch with a known issue go out on the last day for scrips for many players.
I am truly disappointed as well, as I really like the game. The company not so much.
I will keep watching yours and Bildo’s blogs to see if it has been rectified, but for now, I plan to play in EQ2 more with my wife, and play some single player games.
Going to miss that combat and visuals of AoC though..
Dangit Funcom!
