Vanguard’s Blood Mage
After my 3 week hiatus from Vanguard I came back refreshed and eager to play it again. My main is a level 38 cleric and I’ve tried a few of the other classes but only to level 5 or so. One class I hadn’t tried yet but have developed an interest in is the blood mage. So I figured I’d try one.
The reason I hadn’t bothered with a blood mage before is that I’m not a big fan of squishies, hence the cleric is my main. He’s a plate wearing, mace wielding fiend. The blood mage wears a dress. But I’d heard they were fun to play and good healers so here I am.
I’ve levelled my blood mage to 12 and what I’d heard about this class is true. They are fun to play and a bit more challenging than the cleric. I’ve soloed most of it with one or two duos in the mix but I’m yet to see how he performs in a group as the main healer, back-up healer, or dps.
So far my abilities list is comprised of some buffs, some direct damage and damage over time spells, a couple of heals and a couple of life-taps. What makes these spells a bit different from the norm is that you have Blood Points. Some spells you cast earn you blood points and others cost blood points to use. Some spells do more damage or heal for more for each blood point you have. One of the life-taps gives an additional 10% health per blood point. With a maximum of five blood points that’s a 50% increase.
I also have three “stances”. Unfocused is the normal stance where everything is equal. Focus of Gelenia trades health for power as well as a 25% increase to damage and the addition of a blood point every five seconds. The third stance is Sanguine Focus and gives a 25% increase to heals and an additional 15% to mitigation, but damage is reduced by 50%.
Once I hit my teen levels I should be able to get into groups for Khegor’s End and get a good overall feel for this class.
