Undecided On Age of Conan

6 May, 2008 (03:05) | Age of Conan, All

I’ve been hot and cold about Age of Conan for months now.  I read something new and I get all excited about it, then the next day I read something I don’t like.  Unfortunately the firewall at my work is very effective and I’m unable to view most of the game sites out there so I have to rely on a handful of forums and fansites and of course my fellow bloggers (thanks to those guys and girls on my blogroll, you’re a great resource for me).  And when I get home I don’t want to use my precious game time trolling through forums, otherwise I’d never get to play any MMOs.

A lot of times I’m unable to properly research a topic so may be misinformed or may only see one perspective and not another.  Currently from what I’ve seen of AoC beta reviews a lot of people are unimpressed.  While I’m sure there are just as many people happy with the game, the bad reviews make me hesitant to part with my cash.

I’ve played a dozen MMOs in my time and as a fan of the genre I feel obligated to some extent to try it and experience it for myself.  It’s not even the cash that’s stopping me, but rather, it’s my time.  After a few weeks holiday away from the computer the game I wanted to play when I got home was Vanguard.  My little hiatus has reinvigorated me and I’m really enjoying it again.  If I’m to try AoC then I won’t be able to play Vanguard, I just don’t have enough spare time to play two MMOs.

So that is the dilemma I’m facing at the moment.  I’m tempted to wait until the game’s had some polish, which I have no doubt will need it, and I’ve had a chance to read some reviews.  I still have a couple of weeks to decide either way.

just my opinion but I think waiting is definitely in order. Not only will the game be better a few months after its out, but it will probably have a larger user base who knows the ins and outs.

Put it this way… the Open Beta was botched by using an older client.

I’ve been playing since February and I’m damned impressed. The combat is the best in an MMOG yet and the visuals are unmatched. The story rivals many offline RPGs to boot. I don’t have experience in crafting, or much at all with PvP yet, but if you like good solid PvE and great visuals… this one’s a no brainer.

The performance in the closed beta is far ahead of what the poor folks in the open beta have seen.

I say get it… but I’m also in love with the damn thing.

Based on what I have played…the 30 days from the box order will decide for me if I continue…

I enjoyed it enough to keep my pre-order intact. The games performance has been touch and go, but I have had quite a bit of success overall..

If you like a story with your MMO, cool combat that on the surface seems easy, but requires more thought, great character visuals and music and sound

Then at least try the box, if for anything to make sure other MMO devs see that people don’t want the same stand and mash button combat and gameplay!

It’s pretty much a given that I’m going to try Age of Conan and decide for myself. I’ve been waiting too long not to.
