Magic - The Gathering
I haven’t had much opportunity to play or blog over the Easter weekend. Not because I was fortunate enough to go away but rather I’ve worked every day of it. So no Vanguard or any other MMO over the weekend. But one thing I have tried is the Trading Card Game (TCG) Magic - The Gathering (MTG) Online.
I haven’t really played TCGs before. I’d bought a deck for MTG about a year ago but could never find anyone to play with. I did try Sony’s Legends of Norrath for a little while. That’s their TCG and it’s included with Everquest and Everquest II. Vanguard has its own built in TCG which is part of the Diplomacy Sphere, and it’s a fairly simple game compared with Sony’s and MTG.
So I decided to install the MTG game client which was about 370 MB and the tutorial which was another 93 MB. There’s a 14 trial version but I decided to pay the $9.99 USD and get the full version. I also bought a deck of cards and a booster pack for about $16 USD. I don’t know that I needed to yet, or even if I’d bought the right ones, but I got a bit over excited and went a little crazy in the online store. I think I did well to get off as lightly as I did.
Up until now I’ve only played the tutorial games, the basic and advanced. I’m still trying to get a grip on how it all works, particularly the more advanced cards. From here it’s into the Training room where I’ll start playing against real people. I figured this will be a good pastime for when I only have a half hour or so spare, or when I’m sitting on the couch watching TV with the wife.
