Vanguard Faces
Recently, Vanguard’s Game Update #4 went live and with it a number of changes have been implemented. These changes have been eagerly awaited by Vanguard’s gaming community and a lot of these changes are great (flying mounts). But one change leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
When I first started playing Vanguard I was suprised to learn that there were no visible helms in the game. You had helms of course that you could equip and reap the benefits of, but equipping said helm didn’t display it on your avatar. After a few minutes of being stunned by this omission I thought to myself “I probably wouldn’t show it anyway” and moved on. But a section of the community is unable to move on and they have been vocal on the forums and websites, waving placards and chanting “WHAT DO WE WANT? HELMS. WHEN DO WE WANT THEM? GU#4″. So the developers have been hard at work making sure helms came out with GU4.
So now we have visible helms and the game’s chat channel has been busy with complaints about them. The two helms that I’ve equipped so far look good in my opinion. The only complaint I have is with the avatars faces. In order to enable visible helms the developers had to reduce the number of “bones” in the faces. So what they’ve done is totally removed most of the customization to the faces. Vanguard had great character creation, enabling you to modify almost every part of the face. But not anymore. You can no longer raise or lower cheekbones, you cannot fill cheeks. You can’t widen or narrow lips or change your avatars mood from a smile to a frown. Now granted, not many MMOs have this level of customization, but for me it’s an important part. I would rather be able to modify my avatar’s appearance then wear helms.
I want my face back.
